This year, Tameside residents are invited to join millions across the UK in celebrating The Coronation of King Charles III with a Coronation Big Lunch.
Big Lunches are designed to bring communities together and what better time to come together than such a historic event? Big Lunches can come in many shapes and sizes, from back garden parties to street parties with the whole community.
To support residents in organising street parties, Tameside Cultural Services, part of Tameside Council have created a Coronation Street Party Guide to help make the process as easy as possible. It is completely free to close your street with minimal paperwork to fill in so you can spend you time planning a fabulous event. The guide also has game and activity ideas to help make sure your party is a success.
The Coronation is being celebrated with an additional bank holiday on Monday 8thMay and thousands of Big Lunches are expected to take place across the weekend between Saturday 6th May (the day of the televised Coronation) and Monday 8th May.)
If you wish to apply to close your road for a street party the deadline for applications is Monday 10th April.
You can download the guide to get planning your street party here. If you want to organise a smaller event in a bank garden there’s plenty of information on the Coronation Big Lunch website here.
Thank you to the Tameside Reporter for allowing us to use their photographs taken at street parties organised in 2022 as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
