During the Industrial Revolution, Tameside because the centre of the cotton trade. Geographically placed to provide the perfect weather conditions for manipulating cotton into fabric and a transportation infrastructure quickly gained our local area a worldwide reputation for cotton production excellence.
In this workshop we will be looking at the art of printing with participants being taken through the block-printing process to create their own bolt labels. Bolt labels would be attached to bolts of cloth so that you knew who produced them. Once the block-printing process is understood, it can be used to create boldly printed fabric like ABC Wax Printing in Hyde would produce and export all over the world!
Learning Opportunities
- Pupils will improve their mastery of art and design techniques with a range of materials.
- Pupils will learn about significant events in their own locality.
