Art Gallery Reopens with Nature Exhibition

“At One with Nature” is the name of the new exhibition heralding the reopening of the Astley Cheetham Art Gallery, Trinity Street, Stalybridge, following the completion of staircase repairs.

Featuring works from the Astley Cheetham art collection, it encourages visitors to take a few moments out of their day to focus on nature in a mindful way and explore the beauty of the world around them. Intricate paper bird sculptures by Lucy Jean Green are also on display, plus objects from the borough’s natural history collection including shells, butterflies and pressed plants. There are self-led craft activities for children.

The exhibition continues until Saturday, June 10, and entry is free.

Taking inspiration from “At One with Nature”, the gallery is hosting an adult art class on Saturday, May 20 (10.30am to 12.30pm) led by Anna Connor where you can learn the skills required to make a piece of artwork inspired by nature.

Anna will show how to “draw yourself calm” by welcoming each participant into a mindful practice of slow drawing with a variety of beautiful patterns inspired by nature.

This is a practical and effective workshop for increasing creativity while reducing stress. No previous experience is required. The cost is £20 per person and all materials, equipment and tools will be provided on the day. Book your place on the workshop here

A Tameside Council spokesperson said: “As we approach the second month of spring, what better way to announce the reopening of our very popular and treasured Stalybridge art gallery than with an exhibition that focuses on nature? It’s the perfect escape from the busyness of everyday life.

“The art workshop is another great way to escape from all the stresses and strains. Places are limited and demand is expected to be high so we would advise people to waste no time in booking their place.”
