There’s not long left to see Portland Basin Museum’s current exhibition, Step Back in Time.

Wombles, flying ducks, ration books, royal memorabilia, the space race and Buzz Lightyear all feature in this exhibition celebrating popular culture of the past century.

The museum’s curator Michelle Hill says, “We wanted to create a fun exhibition that would provide a bit of escapism for people. There are objects from the 1920s until the present day. It has been a great chance to get objects out of our museum stores and on display. There’s a television bought by a Denton family in 1953 so they could watch the Queen’s coronation. There’s also a 1966 World Cup programme, a 1980s Walkman and a Gameboy from 1989. It’s lovely overhearing visitors chatting about what they remember and being surprised when they find objects from their childhood on display”.

The objects have all been donated by local people over the past few decades and form part of the museum’s social history collections which tell the stories of local people and places.

Step Back in Time is on show at Portland Basin Museum until Sunday 30 October. Entry is free.
