Tameside Local Studies & Archive Centre is the place to go for records and material relating to the history of Tameside's nine towns. Whether your interest is in industrial heritage, a shop you remember, the school you attended, railways, the Manchester Regiment, or something else entirely - even just the history of your house - we can point you towards the right resources and help you get started.
To view archive material, please consult our catalogue. If you find material you wish to see, simply take the reference numbers, and email (localstudies.library@tameside.gov.uk) or phone us (0161 342 4242) at least 24 hours in advance to let us know when you intend to visit.
Our searchroom includes a vast quantity of books relating to the local area which are available for reference, a large collection of local newspapers to view on Microfilm, as well as access to FindMyPast, Ancestry, and the British Newspaper Archive on our computers. If you are new to researching your family history online, let us know, and you can book a help session with a volunteer to help you get started.
