The Untold Orchestra

The Untold Orchestra is a Manchester based collaborative ensemble aiming to redefine the role of the orchestra in the 21st century. It is founded on the belief that all art forms can be accessible to anyone, which has led them to collaborate with a wide array of musicians, artists, venues and communities. In its infancy the orchestra collaborated with local artists and while they continue to do this, they have worked with such artists as Grammy Award-winning pianist and composer Bill Laurance.

In collaborating with the Hulme and Moss Side communities, focussed around the Niamey Theatre, the organisation started the Nia Choir, a women’s and non-binary choir which has already gone on to perform with the likes of Young Fathers at The Royal Albert Hall. You can find members of the orchestra regularly performing in Manchester and around the UK, but their stand out performances come through their Icon series, where they celebrate the life and music of iconic artists (from Nina Simone, to David Bowie, to modern day stars). In these performances the tell stories through poetry, dance and music to make truly unique experiences for audience members.

The Concerts By Candlelight events are part of the vibrant new programme at Stalybridge Civic Hall, bringing fresh cultural experiences, live music, and community events to the heart of Tameside.
